Holman Heritage Community Center of Stuttgart Arkansas, working for the community by competing in and winning The Community Based Organization of the Year Award 2018.

Calvin Criner, executive director of the Holman Heritage Community Center, has served as a community guide for UAMS College of Public Health doctoral students. Criner has demonstrated a commitment to bridging the racial divide in his community.

Holman is a 501 (c)(3) tax exempt organization, whose mission is as follows.


The Mission of the Holman Community Development Corporation shall be exclusively for charitable,

civic, educational, recreational, business development and community orientated improvements.

The organization functions as a major entity to upgrade and strengthen the community.

Holman School began with funds from the Julius Rosenwald Foundation in 1924. The Rosenwald structure was replaced with a masonry building in the early 1940s and a second building and a gymnasium were constructed 1955. Named after longtime teacher John Holman and his wife, the Holman School operated as a school for African American students until 1970. In 1996 the Holman Heritage Development Corporation assumed the duties of preserving the center as a cultural and historical landmark in Stuttgart.
